Book Sales Show Continued Growth

New York, NY, August 25, 2010 – The Association of American Publishers is reporting continued growth for book sales.  June sales increased 10.6%, which converts to 11.4% year-to-date.  The most aggressive growth in June came from Hardcover Children’s/YA category up 19.6% for the month and 16.7% y-t-d.  Higher Education publishing sales was another good growth area in June with a 35.2% increase over last year, and 27.4% growth for the year.  E-books continue to grow with a sales increase in June of 118.9% and 204.2% y-t-d.  Religious Books were down 8% for the month, although volume was up 1.4% for the year.  Adult Hardcover segment was also down 13.9% for the month, while this category still has year-to-date growth of 13.1%.
