Book Sales Continue to Decline

BOOK SALES CONTINUE DECLINE

The Association of American Publishers has released book sales for the month of August.  All print segments were down during the month.  The largest decrease was for Mass Market paperback.  This segment was down 36% for the month, and 29% year-to-date.  E-books continued to grow, mostly at the expense of Mass Market paperback.  E-book sales increased 116% for the month versus August of 2010, and are up 144% year-to-date.  The Religious segment is the only group showing growth year-to-date at 9%.  However, for August, this segment decreased 2% compared to 2010.
